To ensure that we have a ready force of volunteers to supplement the police force and lessen the burden on them, in each of the villages, volunteers were activated under guidance of SP Raj Tilak Roushan (I.P.S.) as Anti-corona Corps (ACC) by Osmanabad police by visiting each and every village and motivating the youth. Osmanabad has 749 villages and in each of the villages around 10 youths were prepared. They have been working shoulder-to-shoulder with police. By sharing workload, on one hand ACC have helped to pacify the psychological pressure on an overstretched police force and on the other hand they have led to a participative and thus more acceptable covid19 fight in Osmanabad.

The ACC were motivated by providing i-cards, masks, sanitizers, T-shirts, whistles, odomos, vitamin-C tablets to each one of them. Local police station officers as well as senior officers visited them regularly and briefed them about their role and the important part they are playing. All the positive cases in Osmanabad are only those who arrived from metropolitan cities and were immediately quarantined and tested.

ACC have been instrumental in keeping Osmanabad safe during covid19 times by contributing in the following ways: *Activating them has been the key to preventing secondary or community transmission in villages. *They man check-posts with police where there is a shortage of staff. *Any new arrival from outside is checked at the village boundary. *Ensuring that there are no hidden intrusions in villages. *New arrivals are immediately quarantined and police are informed. *Keeping watch over quarantined people. *They keep watch on enforcement of basic safety norms in villages like wearing mask, maintaining social distancing, avoiding crowding, etc. *They act as a fluid link between people and police. *Arousing a sense of self-responsibility and self-compliance amongst common people at the ground level which is the key in the fight against covid19 in coming future. Since the police can’t be present at all the places and all the times, local police are always in touch with them to receive inputs which sometimes turned to be very timely in avoiding any mishappenings related to corona. There have been cases when there is a scuffle and social tension arising due to quarantine issues. ACC has been in a key role to get these reported in time to avoid any unfortunate incident. They have been also briefed to ensure that any case of social boycott is immediately reported and bring about an awareness in people that’s it’s a disease and not a crime. Social distancing norms have to be followed and not social exclusion. These 8000 strong ACC are working voluntarily and enthusiastically and ably supplementing the Osmanabad police force of 2000 men. None of the men from the Osmanabad police force has been infected by covid19. Osmanabad has inter-state boundary with Karnataka - Kalaburgi and Bidar districts – both of which had a number of cases from the start of lockdown. Neighboring Solapur district and Ahmednagar also had many cases from the start. On the other hand, Osmanabad was in Green Zone until the start of lockdown 4.0. Only when lockdown relaxed and mass arrival from big cities started then positive count started increasing. But still, there has been effective containment of secondary infection spread because of timely reporting, quarantining, and medical testing. All this has been possible with the efforts of the police force in coordination with other departments but being supplemented by 8000 strong volunteer force of Anti-corona Corps has been a game-changer which is going to benefit in future as well especially when the police have assumed the double role of successfully perform routine duties like crime control, law and order, traffic, etc as well as the fight against covid19.
